Addressing Classroom Behavior Through the Lens of the Adult Nervous System

Live Online Two Half-Day Workshop for Educators
Wednesday-Thursday, July 29-30 from 12 to 3 pm ET
Registration includes one year of access to the recordings

Increase Flexibility & Cultivate Connection

Discipline must be understood through the nervous system, beginning with our own as adults working alongside children and adolescents.

Across two half-day sessions we will explore multi-tiered levels of support for adults to cultivate their own autonomic flexibility and adaptability as a foundation of community care.

In a culture often marked by resistance and burnout, this experience offers space for reflection, connection, and a collective “Retuning” in how we understand ourselves and our responses, and student behavior.

This is not about feeling "calm all the time"

Learn why adult self-awareness is the critical starting point for change.

Shift Your Perspective

Move away from traditional "classroom management" toward a deeper understanding of how the nervous system drives change.

Develop Practical Tools

Participants will leave with realistic, sustainable ways to carry forward a sense of “reset” and “retuning” in their daily work.

Engage Your Own Nervous System

Begin listening to what your nervous system is trying to tell you, allowing you to make more intentional decisions during challenging situations.

Wednesday - Day 1

Part 1: Why the Nervous System? Why Adults?
12:00 - 1:25 pm ET

This opening session invites participants to explore why discipline must be viewed through a nervous system lens, and why adult awareness is essential to this shift.

This is not about “being calm all the time” or trendy “regulation,” nor is it about blame or shame. Instead, we will engage in an authentic exploration of our own nervous system states and our own nervous system states and how they are essential in transforming how we imagine “classroom management.”

Break
1:25 - 1:35 pm ET

Part 2: In Practice - Tuning Into Our Nervous Systems

1:35 - 3:00 pm ET

Building on this foundation, participants will engage in reflective and experiential practices that bring awareness to what their nervous systems are communicating.

This session focuses on developing the capacity to notice, interpret, and respond to internal cues, supporting greater flexibility, presence, and intentionality in moments of challenge.

Thursday - Day 2

Part 3: Environment and Integration / Creating Conditions for Felt Safety
12:00 - 1:25 pm ET

The focus expands from individual awareness to the environments and conditions adults are cultivating.

Participants will examine how classroom structures, routines, and relational dynamics either support or disrupt a sense of felt safety, for both students and adults. This session also considers how school environments impact educator wellbeing, and how broader, shared supports can strengthen community care.

Break
1:25 - 1:35 pm ET

Part 4: In Practice - Integrating into Daily Routines

1:35 - 3:00 pm ET

The final session centers on practical integration. Participants will explore how nervous system-informed approaches can be woven into existing procedures, transitions, and everyday interactions, without adding more to already full schedules.

We’ll explore how to model these practices alongside youth, while fostering co-regulation and relational support. Participants will leave with realistic, sustainable ways to carry forward a sense of “reset” and “retuning” in their daily work.

She does this by integrating the tier one trauma accommodating Applied Educational Neuroscience framework, and its learning principles and practices into her coursework at Butler.

Watch Lori on Wired for Connection

Dr. Desautels appeared on Wired for Connection: A Polyvagal Podcast, to discuss the transformative power of the nervous system. She shares her journey from special education teacher to neuroscientific educator and highlights how applied neuroscience can revolutionize classroom practices to support both teachers and students.

VERY relevant. Dr. Desautels is actively engaged and working with our same students. Her material is spot on. I wish we could clone her and have her in all of our districts!
